On the topic of space colonies, I have to think back to the 2002 Joss Whedon series “Firefly,” however short-lived. This series (which you can now find on Hulu), follows the adventures of “space pirates,” who aesthetically seem more like cowboys. What I liked about this series was how it was almost impossible to place it into a particular genre. Was it science fiction because of its setting? Or was it more of a western because of the “new frontier”? Although I doubt there will be another installation of this series any time soon, luckily the canon is being expanded into a series of books, the first having come out in 2018, and the next two coming out in 2019.
