I don’t think we could really have any science fiction without the “science” part, and as a follower of the channel, “Because Science,” I was really excited to hear that they’re launching a new branch called, “Because Space.” As one of the few regions where humans have barely even scratched the surface of discovery (similar to the deep sea), I can’t wait to see what kinds of video the channel decide to launch, that they haven’t already, since to be honest, I can’t say I actually know a whole lot about space. I love the concepts about space in fiction, but in actuality, I don’t know much, so I’ll definitely be tuning in on May 20th, to see more from this branch of the “Because Science” channel.

Film Fridays: “Watchmen” Teaser Trailer
While I know the teaser trailer isn’t for a movie, technically, or at least based on the description provided on the Youtube video I found, I had to mention this trailer for our “film Friday,” considering the fact that the “Watchmen” movie and comic book were two of my favorite medias when I was a bit younger. I thought the concept of these kind of “aging,” no longer “golden” heroes and vigilantes is such an amazing concept, because I think all the “Batman” and “Spider-Man” stories of youthfulness become a bit boring after a while, and it’s a much different concept to piece together when, naturally, the superheroes we know become less “extraordinary” as they progress into middle-age. It’s a very “realistic” image of heroes that I think rarely comic books address, so I am really looking forward to seeing how this new “Watchmen” series turns out.
Thanksgiving Thursdays: “Swamp Thing”
While I didn’t grow up reading the classic “Swamp Thing” comics, the more recent iterations of the character have brought my attention to the upcoming DC film covering the origins of this character. As with most new DC content, they seem to be making him into more of a “villainous” character, though maybe vigilante would be more accurate, versus the comic books I’ve read on him which portray the character in a much more heroic, do-good, light. I’m not sure if this trailer is misinterpreting the content of the film and if after all, he really is a hero. But either way, I’ll definitely be following this story into the film’s release later this year.
What’s Happening Wednesdays: New “Spider-Man: Far From Home” Trailer
Since watching “Avengers: Endgame,” everyone who’s been following the Marvel cinematic universe knows, to an extent, what to expect. Earlier this year, the first trailer for the newest “Spider-Man” film, “..Far From Home,” came out, but in wake of the events of “Avengers: Infinity Wars,” almost everyone was wondering how there could be another film in the Spider Man canon. The first trailer felt as surface level as we could expect for a film resting on pending details. However, after the conclusion of the “Avengers” canon (as far as we know), the newest trailer for “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is incredibly more substantive, and definitely makes sense of the events leading up to Spider-Man’s newest journey. Overall, I can’t wait to see this film, and see where the Marvel cinematic universe goes next.
Typescript Tuesdays: “Game of Thrones” Spin-offs

In the wake of the end of the long-running HBO series, “Game of Thrones,” many fans have been wondering about where the series will head next, since there are volumes of material and creative minds to draw upon in creating a spin-off series, a term which George R.R. Martin, claims to dislike quite a bit in the article I found on this topic from Sciencefiction.com. According to Martin, rumors are incredibly unreliable. However, he does encourage fans to pick up a copy of his recent book, “Fire and Blood,” if they too would like to come up with some theories. I’m not really sure if I believe this suggestion of his has any further merit, but I am looking forward to seeing where HBO finally lands after the progenitor series ends.
Marathon Mondays: “Albedo”

While I couldn’t find a good image of the upcoming futuristic mystery, “Albedo,” I wanted to mention the series, both for its starring of Evangeline Lilly (Marvel’s “Wasp”), and the place these kinds of dramas have in the space of science fiction. Much of the future is unknown to us, but by blending the genre of the mystery drama with the future, I think there’s something about that combination that encourages the creative spirit of directors and writers to make something that surpasses the expectations of what had ought to be, since the possibilities are limitless. Not much of the series is known, since I was only able to find a couple of articles citing the series, such as the one from Deadline.com, but I’m still optimistic.

Science Saturdays: The Science of “Black Panther”
As one of my favorite Marvel films so far, I had to take the chance to look into the feasibility of the science featured in “Black Panther.” The setting of the film was exceptionally futuristic, even while existing in the same time frame as the other films, which made me curious as to whether the kind of technology featured in the film, such as flying cars, invisibility cloaks, and handheld EMPs. In the end, the found an article from Syfy explaining how at least the invisibility cloak and handheld EMPs could be made or used in the “real world” outside of the Marvel cinematic universe. It was interesting to read that these devices or similar devices could be produced in some practical sense, such as an invisibility cloak shielding one from satellites, or a EMP device being used to disrupt electronics. However, none of the “real world” applications were nearly as glamorous nor flawless as those shown in “Black Panther,” but the concepts listed do make for amazing fiction.
Film Fridays: Upcoming Marvel Films

Similar to the number of Marvel series purportedly coming out on the Disney+ streaming service, the rumors surrounding upcoming Marvel films are numerous. In my search of confirmed and unconfirmed details, most information sounded a bit shoddy, but I was able to find one article reporting in on all the rumors fans have been hearing about over the last couple of years. The author cites, of course, the upcoming “Spider-Man” and “Black Widow” films, which many fans have known about for some time now. However, they did go into more details, and the source of the details, on other films, such as another “Black Panther,” and another “Doctor Strange,” so I’m looking forward to seeing how true some of the predictions turn out to be.
Thanksgiving Thursdays: Marvel Cinematic Universe Timeline
Earlier this year, Sciencefiction.com released an article citing where each of the films from the Marvel cinematic universe fall on a timeline, which was helpful since “Avengers: Endgame” definitely made me, at least, a bit confused as to where all of the characters were at a given moment in time. After looking through this timeline, the volume of all the cinematic universe has, and will continue to accomplish, as they progress between “phase three” to the elusive “phase four.” I remember after watching this last film, some of my friends commenting that it must have been what seeing the original “Star Wars” films was like, and although I’m not necessarily sure as to the merit of that claim, I do think this is a remarkable time to be a fan of this particular cinematic universe, and the run of the “Avengers” canon from 2008-2019.
